September 12 is National Video Games Day. The day celebrates one of the most popular past times for all ages with 38% of gamers ages 18-34. The gaming industry is worth around $300 billion according to some statistics, and continues to expand.
Approximately 3 billion people worldwide play video games and in 2021, the consumer spending in the video gaming sector was $60.4 billion in the United States. Esports continues to expand as well with universities around the world now supporting programs for the industry.
The 9th generation of video game consoles is currently underway with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S. The Nintendo Switch also continues to sell well with many people passing time during the pandemic playing video games and buying new video games and consoles.
